If there’s this one Goodie Goody that reserves a space CLOSEST to our hearts, it must be #OhMyLeche. You must have heard about how OFWs survive abroad in times of hardships and how Filipinos have become “Masters of Resilience” in times of catastrophe. It was almost Christmas in 2013, when hubby’s company had some salary issues, that not even a tenth of it had been released. I had to think of a way to somehow get through as the holiday season was coming. Selling Leche Flan along with my “Polvoron ala Goldilocks” had been a good option. I was not a pro at any goodie at that time yet as I am even a newbie to cooking and baking.
But thank God, shout out to my Mom (I don’t know if you ever heard of this story yet 🤣✌), that I pay close attention whenever she makes Leche Flan at home 🇵🇭. With a dose of COURAGE and a little magic, I practiced making my own version of her Creamy Leche Flan. I had to use rice cooker (good thing EWA was subsidized here in BH that time 🤣), steaming 1-2 aluminum pans at a time. Upon perfecting my Creamy Leche Flan, I had it tasted by hubby’s officemates also residing in our building. VOILA! It was a HIT! I remember I got 6 pans for a Christening for my first order. I was selling it for BD 1 (Bahraini 🇧🇭 Dinar) per pan that time and that BD 6 was a life saver to us!🙂 Then with a help of a friend, she sold my Leche Flan to her colleagues, handing me BD 20 after delivery. That precious BD 20!💖🙏
Fast forward, hubby was BLESSED with a better job. I was no longer selling our life saving Leche Flan, but the memories of how it did change the timid me still lingers up to this day. How circumstances taught us to stay STRONG. And how the saying goes, “IF THERE’S A WILL, THERE’S A WAY” managed to help us to get through tough times. Little did I know that I will be selling #OhMyLeche again after a request from one of hubby’s previous colleagues, also working where my good friend used to help me sell the Flan before. But this time, I would be selling it to pursue my PASSION.🙏💖
We are born SURVIVORS. The MASTERS of our own FATE. Like the taste of Leche Flan, life is BITTERSWEET and it’s really up to us how to face life’s challenges. How we turn bitter experiences to sweet endings is really up to us. With God on our side, there’s really no hardship we can never conquer.🙏
